Information We Don't Collect

Unlike many apps, HaramCheck does not collect any personal information. Specifically, we do NOT collect:

• ✕ Personal identifiers - No names, email addresses, phone numbers, or account information
• ✕ Location data - We never access or track your location
• ✕ Usage analytics - We don't track which products you scan or search for
• ✕ Device information - No device IDs, advertising identifiers, or hardware details
• ✕ Scan history on servers - Your scan history stays on your device only

How the App Works

HaramCheck processes everything locally on your device and through direct API calls:

• Barcode Scanning: When you scan a barcode, the app queries the Open Food Facts public database directly to retrieve product information. This is a direct connection - we don't proxy or log these requests.
• AI Analysis: Ingredient analysis is performed through a direct connection to OpenAI's API. Your queries are not stored or logged on any server we operate.
• Local Storage: Your scan history and preferences are stored locally on your device using Apple's secure storage mechanisms. This data never leaves your device.

Third-Party Services

HaramCheck uses the following third-party services:

• Open Food Facts: An open, collaborative database of food products. When you scan a barcode, product information is fetched from their servers. Their privacy policy applies to this data exchange.
• OpenAI: Used for AI-powered ingredient analysis. OpenAI processes the ingredient information to determine Halal status. Please refer to OpenAI's privacy policy for details on their data handling.
• Apple App Store: For subscription management and payment processing. Apple handles all payment information - we never see or store your payment details.

Camera Access

HaramCheck requests camera access solely for the barcode scanning feature. The camera is used only when you actively choose to scan a product. No photos or videos are stored, transmitted, or processed beyond the barcode recognition that happens locally on your device.

Data Security

Since we don't collect your data on our servers, there's no centralized database that could be breached. Your scan history and app preferences remain on your device, protected by iOS's built-in security features including:

• Device encryption
• App sandboxing
• Secure local storage

Children's Privacy

HaramCheck does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13. Since we don't collect personal data, there are no special provisions needed for children's data.

If we make any changes to this privacy policy, we will update this page and the "Last Updated" date below. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
